Our LeadershipELLIOT SOKOLOW
Elliot Sokolow started
Florida Heating & Air Conditioning, a mechanical contracting business in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1970. In May 1996
Florida Heating signed a merger agreement with American Residential Services, Inc., (ARS) as one of its founding companies.
Following the IPO of ARS, Elliot was employed as Director of software development and implementation became Senior Vice President
and Director of Residential Operations, heading a Division with over 4,000 employees operating in 56 cities in 17 states and
with annual revenues of $500 million. He also served on the Board of Directors of ARS. In May 1999 ServiceMaster
acquired ARS and Elliot chose to pursue other investment interests in real estate and business.
Between June 1999
to August 2000, Sokolow was a consultant to a number of companies in the software industry, becoming CEO of Commerciant Corp.,
a technology and financial services company from September, 2000 until August 2002.
From 1999 through 2007
he has been a partner in a number of real estate development and building projects, including the construction of several
luxury homes, a 300+ unit mixed use condominium, and a number of townhouse projects.
In January 2006, one of Elliot’s
investment companies joined with two other ARS employees to reacquire the new construction air conditioning operations of
ARS in Southern Florida.
Elliot has been actively involved in air conditioning industry activities, having served
as president of the South Florida Air Conditioning Contractors Association and vice president of the Florida State Air Conditioning
Contractors Association. He was elected to two consecutive terms as National President of the Air Conditioning Contractors
of America, the leading HVAC industry trade association with over 5,000 member companies.
Also active in his community,
he spent twelve years as a member of the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals, the agency overseeing the building code
in Broward County, Florida, and served one year as Chairman of that Board. He was also a member of the Palm Beach County
Code Advisory Board for several years. He is now serving his third two-year term as Mayor of the Village of Sea
Ranch Lakes, was a member of the Broward County Planning Council for four years and a member of the Hillsboro Inlet Commission.
Charles J. Meyer, President
Charles (Chuck) Meyer started his career in the air conditioning residential construction industry in 1972.
He passed his contractors licensing exam in Broward County and was issued his first contractors license “CMC 7”
as a Class B Air Conditioning Contractor in 1974. Several years later, in 1978, he became certified as a State Certified
Class A (Unlimited) Air Conditioning Contractor and operated as Electro-Mechanical Contractors, Inc.
In 1980, Chuck
became Vice President and General Manager of Florida Heating and Air Conditioning. The various divisions included
residential and commercial construction, service, add-on replacement, and a sheet metal fabrication shop. The residential
construction division became a dominant industry force, because of their duct fabrication and delivery system. All duct
systems continue to be fabricated and packaged in house to keep them clean after delivery and until they are installed.
This process also helped build their outstanding reputation for quality craftsmanship with all of their builders.
In 1996 Florida Heating and Air Conditioning signed a merger agreement with American Residential Services as one of the
founding companies. Chuck became a Regional Vice President for the new company and oversaw the operations of several
companies in South Florida with total revenues exceeding 45 million dollars per year. In 2006 Chuck joined with Elliot Sokolow
and Dennis Duff to purchase back the South Florida New Construction Division of ARS and together they formed Engineered Air,
LLC.
Over the years, Chuck has been involved with many areas of the construction industry. He is affiliated
with several industry associations and has been on the Board of Directors of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), and
Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) Gold Cost Chapter, since 1991. The Florida Power and Light “HELP”
Program also has certified him for Duct Testing and Repairs. After completion and certification, Chuck taught these
techniques to his installers and trained them to test and repair existing “leaky” duct systems in the field.
In 1990, Chuck was appointed to serve on the Fire Code Committee for the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals
and later on the Mechanical Code Committee as well. In 1994, the Broward County Board of County Commissioners appointed
him, to be the Air Conditioning Contractor representative on the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals. He served
as Vice-Chairman of the Board in 1999 and Chairman of the Board in 2000.
Chuck continues to serve on the
Mechanical and Fire Code Committees for the Board and was recently appointed to the Broward County Mechanical Contractors
Licensing Board in 2007. In 1996, Chuck was also appointed to the Governor’s Building Code Study Group for the
State of Florida. The Committee was charged with the responsibility of attending commission meetings all around the
State of Florida to begin the process of combining all building codes in Florida into one statewide building code. The
final draft of this proposed code has become the current Florida Building Code.
“I have always wanted to
improve the way air conditioning systems are designed and installed. I honestly believe that my associates and
I have been doing that better than anyone else for a very long time.”
